Xabi Alonso is the front-runner to become Tottenham’s new manager.
Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso has reportedly emerged as a top contender for the Tottenham Hotspur position. This follows after a standout season at Bayer Leverkusen.
After firing interim manager Cristian Stellini and appointing Ryan Mason, Spurs are now looking for a new permanent manager.
Mason, 31, oversaw both the heartbreaking last-second loss to Liverpool on Sunday and the 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
According to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Alonso, who has led Bayer Leverkusen to the Europa League semifinals, is a top contender for the position at Spurs.
Arne Slot, the manager of Feyenoord and a rival candidate, is believed to be at a disadvantage to the Spaniard. Arne has helped his team to an eight-point lead at the top of the Eredivisie,
They claim that Slot’s lacks prior experience in “a major competition” and he currently lacks awards. This could work against him.
Alonso’s ‘caliber’ as a top midfielder during his playing days is the reason Spurs are interested in him. According to De Telegraaf, but they have not yet made contact.
Leverkusen, led by the 41-year-old, is currently sixth in the Bundesliga after winning 14 of its first 30 games. He has adopted an appealing attacking football system.
Although The Sun reports that chairman Daniel Levy had concerns about the 35-year-old German due to his age, Spurs are also interested in Julian Nagelsmann.
Although it is not thought to be a game-changer, Nagelsmann is still the betting favorite.
He had been the front-runner for the Chelsea position before quitting the race because he was intimidated by the club’s hiring procedure and believed he had a lock on the position.
According to a prior Mail Sport report, Spurs shows interest in Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Sporting Lisbon.
