William Saliba ranks top Premier League center-backs ever, surprises fans with his choice
When asked to choose the greatest center-back in Premier League history, William Saliba responded with an unexpected answer.
From the French team Saint Etienne, Saliba originally joined Arsenal in 2019.
Saliba rose to prominence as one of Arsenal’s key players in the 22–23 campaign after three loan stints away from the Emirates.
Moreover, the 22-year-old also assisted the Gunners in their surprising run for the Premier League championship. Although he tried, he was unable to stop Manchester City from winning the game.
In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Saliba was to give the three greatest Premier League players of all time.
Best of Best
Moroever, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, and Vincent Kompany were the three names given to Saliba.
Kompany, Ferdinand, and Terry were the Frenchman’s next two picks after he made Kompany his top pick.
“I watch clips of all three on YouTube, sometimes to learn,” he said while discussing his choice.
Although it was difficult to decide, Terry will likely come in third, Ferdinand second, and Kompany will come in first.
The Premier League’s current crop of center-backs were also requested to be ranked by Saliba.
The Arsenal player selected Chelsea’s Thiago Silva third, followed by City defender Ruben Dias of City, captain of Liverpool Virgil van Dijk.
According to Saliba, throughout the past four years, Van Dijk has generally been the best. Ruben Dias, however, was the best for me in the previous two seasons.
“Last season, Dias was, in my opinion, the best in the world. Silva will follow Dias and Van Dijk at this time.
“I hope maybe I will be top three next three, but they are better than me right now,” he continued.
“I hope to be better than everyone here one day,” you said.
