Sevilla’s 2022–23 season has been strange, and the team may not finish in the top half of La Liga. However, they will be pleased with the outcome given how long they spent in the relegation zone. Despite their defensive flaws, the Andalusian giants have excelled in the UEFA Europa League. Prior to defeating Fenerbahce, Manchester United, and Juventus in the three knockout rounds, they defeated PSV Eindhoven in the playoffs. AS Roma placed second in Group C of the UEFA Europa League and then defeated Red Bull Salzburg to advance to the Round of 16.
Jose Mourinho once again displayed his European pedigree as the Giallorossi easily defeated Real Sociedad, Feyenoord, and Bayer Leverkusen. Roma’s Serie A season, however, is not going well as a seven-game losing streak has moved them to sixth place and eliminated them from top-four contention. The Europa League is therefore their best route to the Champions League for the following season.
