Roberto Firmino “agrees to move to Barcelona in the summer”

Jurgen Klopp claims that Cody Gakpo can step in to replace Roberto Firmino, who has decided to move to Barcelona.

Firmino joined Liverpool in 2015, but despite being given new terms, he is expected to leave the team in June. Scoring 109 goals in 360 appearances, the former Hoffenheim player is now anticipated to join Barcelona, according to The Mail.

Firmino will be leaving, but Klopp might already have a replacement in mind. Gakpo, a January addition, has impressed since leaving PSV for a sizable sum of money. The Dutchman started at center forward for Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over Nottingham and has five goals in 14 EPL games.

After the Reds’ victory on Saturday, Klopp said: “To be honest, it would be a bad decision if you watched international football over the last five or six years as a footballer and you love football, and if you are in a similar role and have a similar job to do in the game, and you didn’t learn anything from Bobby Firmino.

“Since we play in front of a crowd, you can watch every game. It’s obvious, in my opinion, that Bobby serves as an inspiration for all players in a position like this one.

“Cody is 23 years old and he was captain of his previous club. I had no idea how that could happen so young, but once he arrived here, you realized, ‘Ah OK, he’s a super-smart kid, really open and a real team player,’ and other things. Additionally, a fantastic football player.

He can play wide, center, and this position, among others. He can also play the nine, which is slightly higher and the double striker. As a result, he can design his own path to success in that position; we don’t have to follow in Bobby’s footsteps because no one is Bobby.

Liverpool formation

Gakpo started in a front line that Liverpool’s second consecutive EPL victory featured Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota on either side. Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz were consequently demoted to the bench, but Klopp has defended his decision to keep Gakpo in the lineup.

“That means you find your own way, and I think that’s much more important,” Klopp continued. That is what Cody is doing. Since he is present, I believe Cody performed exceptionally well.

“We didn’t do that well; that’s challenging for a new player. Joining the team is very difficult, and things aren’t working out. He performed admirably during that time. And now that we’re performing better, perhaps people will notice his performances, but that’s all there is. But he’s been pleasure to work with since the first day he arrived here.
