Robert Lewandowski declines a Saudi offer
Meczyki, a Polish publication, reports that Robert Lewandowski has declined an offer to relocate to Saudi Arabia. The identity of the club is unknown, but the Barcelona talisman may have taken home annual salaries of €150 million. However, he has no immediate plans to leave the Catalan club.
When Robert Lewandowski transferred from Bayern Munich to Barcelona, he got right to work. The international player from Poland made his way to Spotify Camp Nou after a sensational stint at the Allianz Arena. And last summer, he wanted to start a new adventure after collecting every trophy.
The 34-year-old, who won the Pichichi trophy in La Liga, has had success since his move to Barcelona. And as Barcelona won the league title, the seasoned striker amassed an impressive tally of 33 goals and eight assists in 46 appearances. Lewandowski’s name, however, has been connected to the Saudi Arabian powerhouse in recent reports.
Cristiano Ronaldo was acquired by the Saudi Pro League after his disgraced departure from Manchester United, starting the cavalcade. Since then, they have taken N’Golo Kante, Karim Benzema, and a number of other elite players from top European clubs. Kalidou Koulibaly is among the Chelsea players who are close to relocating to Saudi Arabia.
Robert Lewandowski, who is still at the top of his game despite getting older, was their next target. The club that would have acquired the Barcelona talisman is not mentioned in the report. However, the league is effectively under Saudi Arabian government control, making the team’s identity meaningless.
According to the report, Lewandowski would have received annual pay of €150 million. However, he has rejected the Saudi Arabian offer because he does not want to depart from Barcelona any time soon. Talks about a deal also never started because the player did not even consider the approach.
Despite this, the Saudi Arabian juggernaut is still going strong and appears unlikely to slow down, particularly as they pursue the signing of several Chelsea players. Lewandowski’s illustrious professional career will probably come to an end at FC Barcelona.
