Planned celebration of Lionel Messi’s World Cup successes by the Argentine government
Following his role in helping Argentina win the World Cup, Barcelona legend Lionel Messi may receive the highest honor from his country of origin.
Argentina overcame a shocking opening-round loss to Saudi Arabia to go on to win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar thanks in large part to the inspirational play of Messi.
Argentina’s thrilling World Cup victory over France on penalties in the championship game earned the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner the Golden Ball award.
Since La Albiceleste won the World Cup in 1986, thanks to Diego Maradona’s heroics, Messi has refused to rule out retiring from international competition.
The Paris Saint-Germain star will have a spot in the Argentina team for their title defense at the 2026 World Cup, according to manager Lionel Scaloni.
Argentina’s inflation rate reached nearly a startling 100 percent in 2022 alone, according to La Nacion (via UOL Economia).
Two “higher denomination notes” for 5,000 and 10,000 pesos are thinking about by the Argentine government.
According to La Nacion, the Argentine government has not taken a firm stance on the new notes that will be in use in the nation.
The former economics minister of Argentina, Silvina Batakis, asserted that World Cup champion Messi might be a strong candidate to appear on a new note.
She told Radio con Vos, “Today, I heard the president of [Argentina] [Alberto Fernandez] say in an interview that other banknote similarities are under study.
“A bill cannot conceal the problem of inflation. I believe the executive branch and the central bank are currently discussing this issue.
“Banco Nacion [Bank of the Argentine Nation] makes an effort, but for those logistics, having those bills is good…
“There, I would use a symbolic bill, such as one related to the World Cup, to play with something that connects to Argentines’ hearts.
“I would buy [Lionel] Messi a ticket.”
