Mason Greenwood speaks out after the dismissal of charges.
After charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control were over against him due to the “withdrawal of key witnesses,” Mason Greenwood has now made his voice heard.
The 21-year-old was detained in January after many photos and videos were on social media alleging crimes against him.
In addition, the Premier League team suspended him. He would not “return to training or play matches until further notice,” according to Man Utd.
In November, Greenwood was supposed to go on trial. However, All charges against him were over, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) disclosed on Thursday.
In response to the news, he has since issued a statement.
“I am relieved that this issue is now over. The statement said, “I would like to thank my family, loved ones, and friends for their support. There won’t be any more comments at this time.”
According to a GMP statement from earlier in the day, Greenwood would no longer be the target of legal action.
“Given the significant media coverage of this case, it is only fair that we share the news that the 21-year-old man, who had been detained and accused in connection with an investigation started in January 2022, no longer faces criminal proceedings about this,” said GMP’s head of public protection, chief superintendent Michaela Kerr.
“To keep the legal team informed of any significant developments, the investigation team has maintained constant communication. Recognize the justification for stopping the case at this point and that it wasn’t an impulsive choice, either.
“Although this case has garnered attention from the media and the public, we have decided not to elaborate further.
“Nevertheless, I’d like to take this chance to reaffirm GMP’s dedication to looking into claims of violence against women and girls and providing those impacted with support, regardless of their circumstances, during what can be a trying and upsetting time for them.
“An ever-increasing number of officers are receiving specialized training, the force is using the resources provided by the criminal justice system more frequently to protect citizens and assist victims.
“Please don’t let this case discourage you from seeking assistance if you think you are or might be a victim.”
In a public statement, Manchester United also addressed the CPS’s ruling but avoided saying whether Greenwood’s suspension was still in effect.
“Manchester United notes the Crown Prosecution Service’s decision that Mason Greenwood is no longer facing any charges.”
“The club will now conduct its process before deciding the next steps,”
Greenwood “will not return to training or play for #mufc as club conducts their investigation,” Luckhurst continued.
