Man Utd issue statement in response to claims of domestic violence against Antony
After winger Antony was accused of domestic violence, Manchester United issued a statement.
Former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin has accused the Brazilian winger of domestic violence and assault. In fact, on Monday, Antony passionately refuted the accusations made against him on social media.
Cavallin published the accusations on Monday through the Brazilian news website UOL. Greater Manchester and So Paulo police have also received reports of them.
Additionally, after being pressed by advocacy groups for domestic abuse and fan groups, United finally spoke out about the issue.
“Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting inquiries,” the club said in a statement.
“The club will not be commenting further without more information.”
“As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, taking into account the impact of these allegations and subsequent reporting on survivors of abuse,” the statement continued.
Additionally, the Brazilian Football Federation took Antony out of the team for the upcoming international fixtures.
However, up until today, United had not responded to the allegations that were initially made public in June.
Cavallin accused Antony of assaulting her with a glass, slapping her in the head, and threatening to murder her.
She also alleged that Antony hit her in the chest, damaging a silicone breast implant and necessitating corrective surgery.”
In a message sent to his social media accounts, Antony refutes all allegations. Although Antony insisted that his relationship with Cavallin had been “tumultuous,” he insisted that he “never practiced any physical aggression.”
The 23-year-old asserted: “I am innocent of the claims made, and I can say that with tranquility. My relationship with Ms. Due to Gabriela’s irrationality, both parties spat insults. I never, however, engaged in any aggressive physical behavior. As a result, I refute these allegations and would want to state that I am still prepared to provide Brazilian authorities with any relevant information.”
Just two weeks after the club announced Mason Greenwood’s departure, United released a statement.
