Man United fans shocked by how the new players have played more minutes than Anthony Martial.
The number of players who have played more minutes than Anthony Martial this year astounded Manchester United supporters.
Martial paid £36 million to go from Monaco to United in 2015. The Frenchman, though, has had a difficult time gaining support and securing a regular starting position.
Martial spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Sevilla of the Spanish La Liga, but once again struggled to make an impact.
The 27-year-old has made nine appearances this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
Nevertheless, injuries have spoiled his season, and he is currently recovering from a hip ailment.
The list of players with the most minutes has left many United supporters perplexed.
Martial has also logged 749 minutes of playing time during the 22–23 season.
The news that Martial has played 813 more minutes than the January signing Wout Weghorst surprised United supporters. Weghorst has only been a member of the club for one month.
Fans Reactions
“I cannot, for the love of God, believe that Weghorst has played more minutes than Martial this season,” one supporter exclaimed.
Another person said, “His return on those minutes is fairly ridiculous… which only makes it more heartbreaking.”
“That in a word sums up Martial’s tenure at Man United,” said a third admirer.
Several United supporters also remarked that Cristiano Ronaldo, who left in November, and Jadon Sancho, who has been out of commission for a while, have played more minutes than Martial.
“Sancho has more minutes he didn’t play a game for three months,” another United supporter tweeted.
Another poster said, “Even Ronaldo!”
Bruno Fernandes, a midfielder for Portugal, has played the most minutes for United this year. 3358 minutes have passed for Bruno. Amazingly, that surpasses the 3285 minutes played by goalkeeper David de Gea.
Marcus Rashford, who has accrued 2868 total minutes, rounds out the top three.
Before playing Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday, United is preparing for their Europa League playoff second leg against Barcelona.
