Kalidou Koulibaly is ‘unhappy’ at Stamford Bridge. He has spoken with Massimiliano Allegri, the manager of Juventus, about a potential move back to Italy. The Senegalese defender joined the Blues in the summer of 2017 after leaving Napoli for a reported £34 million.
Since his arrival, Koulibaly has had trouble adjusting to life at the club. Chelsea hasn’t been made any easier by two managerial changes and a string of disappointing performances this season. Following nearly £600 million in new purchases over the previous two transfer windows, Chelsea is preparing a sizable summer purge.
Koulibaly, who has played in 22 Premier League games this season, could depart the team this summer. Other players like Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are also considering departure. Koulibaly is currently recovering from an injury suffered during the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal matchup with Real. He might already be looking to leave Stamford Bridge before the start of the following campaign.
Koulibaly is reportedly thinking about returning to Italy in the summer. This comes one season after joining the Premier League, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. The ‘unhappy’ Chelsea defender has discussed a potential transfer to Juventus before the 2023–24 season with Massimiliano Allegri.
The Juventus manager is known to have been a fan of the player since his time in Naples. Even though there haven’t been any actual transfer negotiations as of yet, something could happen in the future. Unless Levi Colwill is given a chance in the first team upon his return from loan, the Blues may have to take a significant hit on their £34 million investment if they decide to part ways with Koulibaly. They will also have to replace the defender with a new signing.
