Ibrahimovic’s season is in jeopardy due to a calf injury.
After AC Milan revealed on April 29 that Ibrahimovic had injured his right calf, his injury-plagued season might be over.
Ibrahimovic will be sidelined for an unspecified period. A “small hope” exists, according to Milan, that he will be able to play before the season is over. The season in Italy ends on the first weekend in June.
The injury was sustained by the seasoned striker during pregame stretching before Milan’s weekend 2-0 victory over Lecce.
Ibrahimovic is a crucial component of Milan’s ascent to the top of Italian football. He has made few appearances for Stefano Pioli’s team this season. He made his season-long comeback in February after having surgery on his left knee in May.
The 41-year-old has only started one game for Milan this season. He scored the oldest goal in Serie A history in a 3-1 victory over Udinese in March.
Milan eliminated current Serie A leaders Napoli from the competition in the quarterfinal round. They have secured their place in the Champions League semifinals.
The reigning Italian champions will now square off against bitter rivals Inter Milan. While Manchester City and Real Madrid will square off in the other semifinal match.
Ibrahimovic has amassed significant awards during his lengthy club-playing career. He returned to Milan in 2020 after a stint with the LA Galaxy. He won’t play in the Milan derby semifinal against Inter Milan next month because he isn’t on the list of players who can play for Milan in the Champions League.
With his contract set to expire in June and no word on a renewal, Ibrahimovic’s most recent injury raises the possibility that he won’t retire at the end of the current campaign.
