This is great news for Man United, Ten Hag, and the club’s supporters as the saga revolving around Frankie De Jong’s transfer appears to be coming to a close.
Although this is an important step, De Jong does not want to leave Barcelona this summer, as has been widely reported throughout this story, which presents a difficulty for Man United. Getting along personally with the midfielder will be challenging because of this, but given the most recent news from Barcelona, the Dutchman may be forced to leave Spain.
The publication claims that Erik ten Hag’s chances of reconciling with the 25-year-old have recently increased significantly as a result of Barcelona’s request for De Jong to depart the team this summer. The reason for this is because, while the La Liga giants continue to pursue their summer targets, namely Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, the midfielder’s exit from Camp Nou would free up between €30–€35 million in the club’s pay bill.
Frenkie De Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona, has reportedly proven difficult for Manchester United to sign. It would be intriguing to see if MUFC can change this and persuade De Jong that moving to United would be in his best interests.
One of the few factors driving the De Jog controversy is that the midfielder was hesitant to sign with Manchester United and prefers to stay at Camp Nou because the Red Devils won’t be in the Champions League next season.
Erik ten Hag, the former manager of Ajax, has made De Jong, his top goal for the summer transfer season. If ten Hag is unsuccessful in bringing the Netherlands international to Old Trafford, he will feel terribly let down.
It will be frustrating for the new manager Erik Ten Hag to fall short of a major target, but given that four senior midfielders, including Paul Pogba, left at the end of the season after failing to renew their contracts, ten Hag will be quite concerned about that area of the field.
