After storming down the tunnel before the final whistle against Tottenham on Wednesday, Cristiano Ronaldo has acknowledged that he let his emotions get the best of him in the heat of the moment.

When Erik ten Hag urged him to come in for Manchester United with only a few minutes remaining, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner refused, marching away from the dugouts and leaving Old Trafford.

In response to his most recent display of disrespect, Ronaldo has since been left off of United’s matchday squad to play Chelsea this weekend. Ten Hag has also mandated that the 37-year-old train alone.

He finally spoke out about the situation on Thursday night by publishing a lengthy letter to Instagram. In it, he emphasized his desire to keep working hard to regain his spot on the United side while insisting that he does not lack respect.

He stated that, as he has done throughout his career, he makes an effort to treat his teammates, rivals, and coaches with respect. That hasn’t changed, and he emphasized that he hasn’t changed.

He asserted that he is the same guy and the same professional that he has been for the past 20 years of playing elite football, and that respect has always been crucial to his decision-making. He was a fairly young player when he started, therefore he always valued the wisdom and knowledge of the more seasoned players.

As a result, he later made it a point to lead by example for the kids who developed into members of all the teams he represented. Unfortunately, that’s not always possible, and occasionally we let our emotions get the better of us.

He proceeded by writing that for the time being, all he feels like doing is training hard at Carrington, helping out his teammates, and being prepared for anything that might come up during a game. There is no option to give in to the pressure. It was never. We must stand as one as Manchester United. We’ll get back together soon.

Ronaldo won’t be available for selection for this weekend’s trip to Chelsea while the problem is being handled, United answered earlier on Thursday with their statement.
