Aston Villa getting closer on signing Marco Asensio.

Marco Asensio will probably move to Aston Villa during the summer transfer window, according to a report by the Spanish outlet MARCA. In the competition to sign the Real Madrid attacker, the Villans have surpassed Arsenal and other interested parties. Additionally, he enjoys the Villa Park project.

The prediction made when Marco Asensio transferred to Real Madrid from RCD Mallorca in July 2015 has not come true. Gareth Bale’s long-term replacement should have been the Spaniard, given that he was among the best young players in the world eight years ago. However, a chronic knee injury he sustained in 2019 somewhat derailed his career and significantly slowed his advancement.

But over the past two seasons, the 27-year-old has steadily improved and put up impressive numbers. Additionally, he has assisted on eight goals and scored 12 times this season, totaling 20 goals. Asensio, however, is nearing the end of his Real Madrid contract, so his long-term future is uncertain.

The Merengues are eager to sign the Spanish international to a new deal, and reports from last month suggested that a contract extension was likely. But over the past few weeks, the situation has drastically changed. Asensio’s head has turned as potential suitors like Aston Villa, Arsenal, and PSG compete for his services. Additionally, the player is most likely to leave Real Madrid this summer as a free agent.

The Real Madrid attacker is reportedly being courted by Unai Emery to join Aston Villa. And given that Asensio will be a significant improvement over Leon Bailey, it should come as no surprise that the Villans want to hire him. Additionally, according to the MARCA report, the 27-year-old is almost certain to sign with Aston Villa, whose endeavors he admires.

A blow to potential suitors like Arsenal is the most recent update. Bukayo Saka, who essentially played every game this season when healthy, is no longer an option for the Gunners. While Lionel Messi and Neymar’s futures are still up in the air, the player was also a target for PSG. PSG wanted to sign him.

Asensio is almost certain to leave Real Madrid as a free agent, but his next stop could be Aston Villa. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal or PSG can get the Spaniard to change his mind in the midst of his admiration for the Villa Park project.
