Arsenal star told to leave the club after joining the team last year.
Matt Turner, the goalie for Arsenal, ought to vacate the Emirates Stadium in the summer. Brad Friedel, a former USA and Tottenham goalkeeper, advised Matt Turner to leave the team if he wasn’t going to be the first option.
Turner played six years with the New England Revolution before joining Arsenal last summer from Major League Soccer.
Moreover, Turner, the US national team’s first-choice goalkeeper, participated in each of his country’s four World Cup group games. He preserved two clean sheets, making history as the first US goalie to do so since the 1930 World Cup.
Turner, despite his strong performance in Qatar, is Arsenal’s backup goalkeeper to Aaron Ramsdale. Matt Turner has not yet played in the Premier League.
He did participate in the FA Cup match against Manchester City in the fourth round last month. The Gunners lost 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium, but he was nonetheless hailed for his performance. He participated in the third-round victory over Oxford and has appeared in four Europa League games this season.
Arsenal player told to leave the club this summer.
Friedel expressed to the Sporting Post his admiration for Zack Steffen, the goalie for Manchester City. Middlesbrough of the Championship has Steffen on loan. Moreover, Turner and Steffen are vying for a spot on the USMNT.
Added him: “Even if Arsenal is a fantastic team, I believe Matt has to find consistent football someplace.
“Okay for this season, but if he isn’t going to be the best, he has to leave.
“The only problem is that he has a lengthy contract, so why would Arsenal let him go? You have a fantastic goalie who is also a wonderful worker and an incredible guy. One of the best number twos on the planet is yours.
“It seems like a difficult situation. I want there to be a lot of competition on the US side of things, so I want Zack Steffen, Ethan Horvath from Luton, and Matt Turner to all be playing because it improves everyone.”
