Alphonso Davies has Lionel Messi’s shirt finally after years of waiting, It’s a dream come true.
Following Bayern Munich’s Champions League victory over PSG, Alphonso Davies finally got his hands on a Lionel Messi jersey.
In August 2020, when Bayern defeated Barcelona by an impressive eight goals in a memorable Champions League quarterfinal, the Canadian fullback was denied Messi’s jersey.
Davies’ quest for the ideal memento fell short after that match at Camp Nou. The left-back told BT Sport, “I requested it, but I believe he was a little upset.” It’s all right, hopefully, next time.
However, more than 900 days later, the 22-year-old finally got the shirt of his dreams.
As he and teammate Thomas Muller made their way to the dressing room at Parc des Princes, Davies appeared ecstatic.
Here are the reactions of the fans.
One person wrote: “Alphonso Davies getting Messi’s shirt after three years was the best thing that happened in that game,” while another wrote: “Alphonso Davies getting Messi’s shirt is dope, he’s finally got it.”
“Alphonso Davies is probably happier to get Messi’s shirt than the win tonight,” a third person said.
Davies adores the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner. When asked if he grew up watching the Champions League, the Canadian shared a wonderful tale about a conversation he had with his father about Messi.
“Every Wednesday or Tuesday at noon (Edmonton time), we would watch it in class because I attended a football academy school,” Davies told UEFA.
“All of the football players were present, supporting the team they thought would triumph. It was incredible, and now I get to compete in the Champions League against Lionel Messi, one of my all-time favorite athletes. Sincerely, it’s a dream come true and I’m speechless.
“My dad called me yesterday and said, “So you’re playing against your favorite player, I see,” after my mother had finished speaking. I responded, “Yeah.” We then started laughing together on the phone.
“Since he is aware that I once looked up to Messi when I was younger,” he said, “Honestly, we couldn’t even believe it. Playing against him now is really nice.”
Kingsley Coman’s goal gave Bayern Munich a crucial 1-0 victory in Paris before their Round of 16 second leg on March 6.
