Lisandro Martinez has counseled Garnacho to defect from Spain and ally with the 2022 World Cup champions Argentina.

Spain-born Garnacho made his debut this season under Erik ten Hag. However, he spent a portion of his youth career with Getafe and Atletico Madrid before joining United.

The 18-year-old United starlet briefly represented Spain’s Under-18 team, but Garnacho has since played four times for Argentina’s Under-20 team.

Garnacho is qualified to represent Argentina because his mother is an Argentinean. However, in their international career, the Red Devils’ winger hasn’t played in a senior match.

Garnacho was also called up to the Argentina squad this month because manager Lionel Scaloni wants him to commit his future to Argentina.

Martinez has urged the Argentina U20 international to “forget about” playing for Spain and has vowed to force him to sign with the current World Cup and Copa America champions.

Speaking to TyC Sports, he confirmed: “Garna is an excellent boy with many personalities. With so much pressure and an 18-year-old starting in a bid team, you have a personality, right?

“That’s what I like about him; he’s either going to play the lead role or enters for 10, 15, or more minutes and gives it his all.

“Forget about it; [Garnacho] is with me here. He’ll play for Argentina, I’ll make sure of that. The only option is to travel there with me.”

In addition, Martinez, who joined United from Ajax in the summer, has received much praise for his contribution this year.

The 25-year-old Argentine defender has earned the crowd’s support at Old Trafford. He has, however, been overwhelmed by the love and support from United fans.

“It’s amazing that people in [England] chant, “Argentino, Argentino,” adding that it gives them extra motivation,” said Martinez.

“They adore the way I play, always giving it my all, and you can tell they relate to it.”
